Thorneyfield is ideally placed for walking, climbing, water sports, touring and other less arduous activities such as spending time in the many local shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs as well as the two local cinemas!
Each of our bedrooms has been designed to give you a high standard of comfort and have been lovingly planned, with features such as hand-crafted pine beds, mini fridges, kettles, hair dryers, ironing and drying facilities.
All of our rooms are equipped with TV and DVD players and CD/radio alarms. We will also offer our guests a DVD/CD and book library for those quiet nights when you just want to put your feet up.
All rooms either have en suite facilities or their own exclusive facilities. We have carried out a major programme of refurbishments to offer an even higher standard.
For breakfast we have a comprehensive menu of different options to suit your taste. To start we offer a choice of fruit juices, freshly brewed caffetiere coffee and a number of different teas.
To follow we serve a variety of cereals and then either our full Cumberland breakfast cooked on our traditional Aga for that extra taste, or choices for vegetarians and those wanting a lighter continental option. This includes a fresh fruit salad, grapefruit, yoghurts and croissants.
We also cater for people on gluten and dairy free diets and can also cater for other dietary needs with a little notice.
To finish brown or white toast is offered with a number of preserves to set you up for your busy day.
Our aim is to give you a very happy stay with us and our guests have described us as offering 'a warm and comfortable stay…generous breakfasts and an excellent experience…the best place in Europe!' We want you to agree with these comments and look forward to seeing you at the Thorneyfield!

| | Directions: | From the south leave the M6 at junction 36 and follow the A590/A591 following signs for Kendal and then Windermere. Keeping straight on this road, signs for Ambleside will appear as you go approach Windermere and Ambleside is approximately 5 miles from Windermere.
Coming in to the village you come to set a set of traffic lights where you can turn left and follow the road round until you come in to Ambleside keeping to the left hand side of the road. If you miss this turn don't worry as the one-way system will guide you round to the same road. As you go past the White Platts recreation ground to your left, you will then see the Gables followed just after that by The Thorneyfield. Just keep your eyes out for the purple property!
From the north, you can leave at junction 40 on the M6 following the A66 to Keswick where you will join the A591 via Grasmere to Ambleside.
By train, the nearest mainline railway station is Oxenholme, where you can get a connection to Windermere and a bus or taxi from there to The Thorneyfield. | | Weblink: | www.thorneyfield.co.uk |
