Grasmere is in the heart of the English Lake District and will forever be associated with William Wordsworth, whose home Dove Cottage, together with its museum, is very close by. Another of his homes, Rydal Mount is just 2 miles away.
Grasmere is set in a valley surrounded by mountains and close to Grasmere Lake. There are shops, cafes, restaurants and a garden centre in the village, and of course the famous Gingerbread shop, which was once the village school. The ancient parish church of St. Oswald, containing Wordsworth’s grave, in the centre of the village is well worth a visit. Grasmere and the whole of the Lake District can be enjoyed at any time of the year, with the colours varying with the season.
