The cottages nestle at the foot of Cross Fell, the highest point of the Pennines and home to some of the rarest plants and wildlife in Britain. They were created from a range of ancient stone farm buildings and retain many original features such as beamed ceilings and exposed stone walls. We have just completed a major refurbishment replacing all bathrooms and installing solid English oak floors in all downstairs living areas. All the cottages have large wood-burning stoves as well as full gas central heating. The large informal wildlife gardens and pastures surrounding them are a haven for rabbits, badgers and the occasional red squirrels. They are host to dozens of species of migrant and resident birds including woodpeckers and nuthatches, while the fells above us are home to skylarks, curlews, buzzards and peregrine falcons.
